Life Update: Full-Time Travel

I always keep it real with you and share what I’m going through. My husband, Jason, and I have recently put all of our belongings in storage on the island of Maui in order to embark on a journey of full-time travel. So, we too are currently experiencing the unknown. What truly adds to the thrill is the uncertainty of how long this adventure will last. While we estimate around six months, the ultimate duration will be guided by our inner compass and the sensations we experience along the way.

The Concern of Being in the Unknown

This bold choice brought forth a concern that had been residing in Jason’s mind for quite some time—the fear of the unknown. As we set out on our new path, questions began to surface, casting a shadow of doubt: How long will our travels continue? Where will our journey lead us? When will we feel the urge to settle down once again? These inquiries weighed heavily on Jason, evoking feelings of uncertainty and trepidation.

An Open Root and a Defined Root

I have an undefined root, while Jason possesses a defined root. In the past, his inquiries would trigger a sense of stress within me because I would think he was pressuring me for answers. However, I came to realize that Jason’s questions were not meant to impose pressure or breed anxiety. They were his way of exploring possibilities, seeking understanding, and expressing his valid concerns. The stress I felt was self-imposed—an amplification of the inherent uncertainty that resides within embracing the unknown.

As we navigate this uncharted territory together, we recognize that our respective Human Design elements bring unique perspectives to the table. This is one of the things I love about Human Design, it allows me to see how we interact in the world.  How we move our energy and how I can support myself and my loved ones along this journey. Jason’s defined root and my undefined root aren’t a problem. Instead, they complement each other and offer valuable insights. I now know that when I’m feeling pressure, I need to slow down and ask myself if it’s mine because, more often than not, it isn’t. Uncertainty is not scary. It helps us grow, discover new things, and have more experiences.

The Illusion of Certainty

The Elusive Pursuit of Certainty

In our society, we are conditioned to believe that certainty holds the key to peace, security, and a sense of control. Above all, we yearn for a meticulously planned life, a stable job, and a future that unfolds exactly as we envision. We convince ourselves that these external factors will grant us the tranquility and serenity we desire. But if we take a moment to reflect on our past, how often has everything unfolded exactly as we expected? Rarely, if ever.

Challenging the Comfort Zone

Our minds coax us to remain within the cozy boundaries of our comfort zones, where everything feels familiar and predictable. However, the truth is that growth, fulfillment, and the realization of our true desires lie outside that comfortable realm. As the saying goes, “If you’re not growing, you’re dying.” Stagnation breeds discomfort, and when we resist venturing into the unknown, we unintentionally choose the discomfort of a life unlived. In other words, we restrict ourselves from experiencing the full richness of life.

The Goal of Emotional Mastery

Instead of pursuing constant happiness or a facade of unwavering certainty, our true goal should be emotional mastery. This is about developing the ability to fully feel our emotions without becoming attached to them. Life is meant to experience the highs and the lows. One can’t exist without the other, and emotions ebb and flow like the tides. By releasing our attachment to specific outcomes, we grant ourselves the freedom to experience life authentically. Then, we can navigate the joys and challenges with courage.

In Human Design, embracing the unknown is important for personal growth and potential, as certainty can be limiting

Making Peace with the Unknown

Cultivating Awareness and Letting Go of Attachment

As you learn more about how your energy moves as a Generator in Human Design, we must start by cultivating awareness within ourselves.

Take a moment to reflect on the areas of your life where you seek certainty and why you crave it. Engaging in journaling can be a powerful tool to explore these desires and uncover the underlying feelings that drive them. Allow your thoughts to flow freely, without judgment or the need for immediate answers. By becoming aware of these patterns, you can start to loosen the grip of attachment and open yourself up to the beauty of uncertainty.

Honoring the Supportive Universe

It is important to recognize that our brains are wired to seek answers and minimize perceived threats. However, it is essential to shift our perspective and acknowledge that we live in a supportive universe that co-creates our experiences. Focus on what brings you certainty, calmness, and peace in your life. Don’t worry about what you lack or what might happen in the future. Through nurturing and appreciating these aspects, you invite more of the same into your reality. Trust that the universe supports and guides you on your own path.

Inner Child Work and Self-Compassion

As you embark on the profound journey of embracing the unknown, remember to treat yourself with love and compassion. Offer reassurance and support that may have been lacking in the past. Remind yourself that, regardless of what unfolds, you possess the resilience and capability to navigate through any situation. Nurture the connection with your inner child, for within lies the wisdom, curiosity, and courage needed to embrace the mysteries of life. Understand that vulnerability is a strength and that growth often occurs outside the realms of certainty.

A Call to Action: Embracing the Unknown

Transcending the Need for Certainty

Are there areas of your life where you’re holding tightly to certainty, potentially hindering your growth and limiting your possibilities? It’s natural to desire stability and a sense of control, but embracing the unknown opens doors to self-discovery and transformation. Allow the questions that arise to become gateways to a deeper understanding of yourself.

Embracing the Magic of Uncertainty

Life is about finding the delicate balance between planning and surrendering, between envisioning a future and trusting the mysteries that lie ahead. As Generators, we are powerful beings. Understanding your own energy is key to recognizing which aspects of yourself are defined and which are not. This knowledge enables you to identify when you are unintentionally absorbing other people’s stress and pressure.

So, I invite you to take that leap of faith. Step into the realm of uncertainty with an open heart and mind. Embrace the beauty of not knowing what lies around the corner. This is where we get to trust our sacral and our bodies when we are making decisions even when we don’t know the HOW. We must have faith in our own ability to bounce back and adjust. Understand that every experience, regardless of whether it meets our expectations or not, brings valuable lessons and growth opportunities.

Learning to trust our sacral, making our decisions from our body versus our minds IS the way. By the same token, our heads want to figure out the HOW but that isn’t how life works.  We only know the HOW after it’s all said and done. What is required of us when we lean into the unknown is TRUST.  Trusting our sacral, that our body knows the way, and that no matter what happens, we will be OK. We can either view uncertainty through the lens of worry and stress or we can see it from the perspective of curiosity and trust. in the end, we always get to choose.

A Life Well-lived: Dancing with Uncertainty

Let go of the need for immediate answers and embrace the unfolding journey. Reflect on the stories that inspire us, like Kipchoge’s, reminding us of our interconnectedness and the power of determination.

Release the illusion of certainty and step beyond the confines of your comfort zone. Allow your emotions to flow and embrace the magic of life that often unfolds in the space of uncertainty. Cultivate awareness, honor the supportive universe, and practice self-compassion. Let the questions that arise become gateways to self-discovery and transformation.
